Born in 1966, he graduated in Mathematics from Pavia in 1988 and became researcher at the Institute of Numerical Analysis (CNR) in 1990. He serves as full professor of Mathematical Analysis in the Department of Mathematics of Pavia University since 2000 and he has been director of the PhD program in Mathematics and Statistics from 2001 to 2008.
In 1994 he received the Japichino prize for Mathematical Analysis from the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and in 2011 the first Ennio De Giorgi prize for Mathematical Analysis from the Unione Matematica Italiana. Since 2009 he is fellow of the Istituto Lombardo - Accademia di Scienze e Lettere.
He has been lecturer of advanced post-doctoral courses in various international academic institutions: Universit´ Paris Dauphine, Institut Fourier, Center of Nonlinear Analysis (Pittsburgh), University of Toronto, Wolfgang Pauli Institute (Vienna), Charles University (Prague), Scuola Normale Superiore (Pisa)
