Research area: The research activity of Prof. Favalli in these years has covered various aspects of signal analysis (in particular video) and transmission in both wireless and wired networks. Particular emphasis has been in the exploitation of adaptive techniques to improve flexibility and reliability of the communications chain. Important aspects have also been related to source and network modeling, and in improvements in signal detection techniques in wireless environments. recent interest are in exploitation of cognitive radio for spectrum and energy efficiency.

Favalli Lorenzo, graduated in Electronic Engineering from Politechnic of Milano in march 1987 and obtained the PhD from the same university in 1991. In 1986 Dr. Favalli has been recipient of a grant from SIP (now Telecom Italia) for his graduation thesis for which he won the 1987 "Oglietti" prize from AEI-CSELT as the best thesis work on communication and switching. In 1989 visiting scientist at the Computer Communications Research Center of the Washington University in St. Louis (USA) with an AEI-ISS grant .In 1988 Dr. Favalli won the special prize at the international contest "Computer in the Cathedral" sponsored by NCR and International Cathedral Association developing a multimedia hypertext system for the fruition of cultural heritage. From 1991 to 2000 Dr. Favalli has been Assistant Professor at the Dipartimento di Elettronica (now Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale e dell'Informazione) of the University of Pavia and since oct. 2000 is an Associate Professor.
