Research area: The main research activity is on multimedia software optimizations on parallel embedded architectures and systems, on image handling for compression purposes, and for processing images as part of structured documents, also with the exploitation of DBMS technology. Recently he also researches on models to match ICT professional profiles specifications with academic curricula.

Marco Ferretti received the Laurea (cum laude) in Electronics Engineering from the University of Pavia (Italy) in 1979, where he is full professor since 1994. He lectures on Advanced Computer Architectures and on Data Bases. He is the chair of the Electronics and Computer Engineering Masters in the University of Pavia. He leads the ECDL project for the whole university, and is active on experimenting e-learning platforms both for ICT and humanities curricula. Since 2004, he runs the nation-wide project on the EUCIP certification in Italian university system, lead by CINI, a consortium of Italian universities active in ICT. From 1984 to 1998 he was Chaiman of the IAPR Technical Committee for Special Purpose Architectures and from 2004 to 2008 he was the President of GIRPR, the Italian branch of IAPR.
